Termites are sometimes dark but usually creamy white. The termite’s head is sometimes dark and is shaped like a shield, sometimes showing some brown and yellow colors. The workers or soldiers can have an orange authority, with the remainder of their bodies being cream-colored.

They feed on wood, and they are social insects that live in colonies underground. Their saliva is instrumental in weakening wood, which is then eaten away by the other settlement members. Termites cut off pieces of wood to transport them back to their nests, where the other members of their colonies will consume them.

The action of termites can cause damage to your home and furniture if left unchecked. Knowing what you are dealing with helps decide the best course of action when you spot a termite on your wood flooring.

2. Choose Your Battle Plan

Whether it is a wise idea to even battle against them depends on several things, like the cost of preventive measures versus the cost of repairs and the type of wood that needs protection.

For example, a homeowner may prefer to have several cracks sealed rather than have an entire kitchen or living room re-finished simply because it is more economical. Gaps around windows and doors are more susceptible to insect invasion and should be sealed against pests such as termites.

3. Know the Needs of Your Wood Flooring

Broken and splintered wood is more fragile, as is wood that has been exposed to liquids over time. If this is the case, be sure to apply a sealant over the cracks and other areas where termites can get a foothold to prevent them from infesting your home. Gaps around windows and doors are generally easier to seal than different cracks.

4. Inspection

Especially if there are high-risk items such as pools or washers in closets or kitchen cabinets – This is essential to do before any maintenance work is done so that any issues can be addressed before damage occurs.

5. Consider Termites as a Service

When you find more than one termite, it is time to contact a professional termite control company for an inspection and treatment plan. If you find insects in the walls, it is likely an infestation and not simply a single termite colony. A professional pest control company will be able to identify the type of termite you are dealing with and recommend a suitable treatment plan to eradicate them.

6. Isolate Your House

As soon as you are aware of an active infestation, isolate your house by boarding up all windows and doors on the outer walls. This will prevent any additional termites from being able to get inside your home.

7. Call a Pest Control Company

Once you have isolated your home, call a pest control company to inspect the entire house for any additional termite damage and develop a comprehensive plan to eradicate them from your property. A technician will take soil samples around the perimeter of your home to identify where they are coming in and how they are getting inside the walls and structures of your home.

8. Stay on Top of the Problem

As a homeowner, you will want to follow up regularly with the pest control company to check on the progress of their treatment plan. They should be able to give you an idea of how long-term treatment will take and how long these pests can live without wood in their diet.

9. Take Precautions After The Treatment

After a termite infestation has been eradicated, it is essential that you take precautions against future infestations and continued damage to your home and property. This can be done by checking your homes regularly for any signs of activity to prevent them from re-infesting your walls and floors.

10. Protect Your Wood Floors

It is essential to protect your wood floors from termites and other pests. You can go several different ways, but the most common is with a prevention plan that will keep termites from getting inside of your home in the first place.

11. Seal Any Cracks

Seal any cracks around window and door frames and seal gaps between floor joists to prevent additional infestation. This will also help to keep out water if there is heavy rain or flooding.
